He is an avid hands on home renovator and is critical of people “taking shortcuts and being cheap”. A self-described renaissance man, he is often called eccentric, even by close friends, and considers the statement a compliment. An expatriate native of Ohio, he enjoys domestic and foreign travel, reading non-fiction, has interests in adaptive re-use and social responsibility, and also knows how to find a good bar.
